Here are 5 tips on wearing beige beautifully at any age.

I personally have a love hate relationship with beige. Beige is the type of color that can be absolutely chic, elegant and timeless or can be downright dreadful, boring and dull if not worn well.

I remember in my early 20’s when being sun kissed and super tan was my end goal every summer and wearing a beige or neutral tan blouse made me look even more sun kissed. Perish the thought of getting that kind of tan now, in my late 40’s. Every time I step outside, I slather myself in SPF 50, so this leaves my olive skin more sallow than golden bronze from the lack of those glorious but wrinkle (or cancer) causing rays.

If you are naturally dark there is more forgiveness with the color beige however the more we mature, the more caution we have to take when wearing beige as it can make our skin look dull and ashy.

Let’s first identify what beige looks like. According to wiki, beige is a very pale brown color, or described as a pale sandy fawn color, a grayish tan, a light-grayish yellowish brown, or a pale to grayish yellow. There are a lot of tone options when it comes to beige. Beige done well is powerful, confident and chic!

Here are 5 tips on wearing beige beautifully at any age.

1. The first fail-safe way to wear beige is a great pair of shoes. I know you might think this is cheating but hey, you are wearing beige! I firmly believe that beige shoes are a great investment too so don’t be afraid to spend a little more here. They are an alternative to a classic nude shoe but work the same way-they can go with so much in your wardrobe. Any neutral shoe is the fail-safe go to shoe that can virtually compliment any outfit.

2. The second easiest way to wear beige is use it for a staple bottom. A skirt or trouser paired with a colorful top makes for a chic way to wear beige without risking it dulling your skin. I love combinations of beige partnered with navy or burnt orange. They bring a rich contrast to the beloved neutral.

3. If you have that beige top just begging to be worn but are afraid of it not being flattering, add a statement necklace that has a pop of color set in bright gold or shiny silver. The contrast of the bright metals with a pop of color will do wonders for your best asset, your face!

4. One of my other favorite ways to add in beige is to look for the shade in fabrics that have a sheen, texture or pattern. This adds some visual interest in an otherwise understated color. Don’t forget to add a little pop of color to your lips for some added glam!

5. My last recommendation is to partner the classic color with a third piece such as a cardigan or jacket that has color to it. A beige blouse is a great alternative to stark white and looks beautiful against many colors, so experiment and have fun!

These are just a few suggestions on how to wear beige over 50. I’d love to see or hear how you are wearing beige, so reach out with your comments or photos with you rocking your beige look!
